PORT OF DEWATTO REGULAR MEETING

September 2, 2003

Chairperson Lorraine Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. Commissioner Robert (Doug) Stevens, Commissioner Jon Byerly and Port Manager Christine Phalen were in attendance.

Guest Present: Bob Gossett, Deanna Gosset, Deanne Saylor, Marlene Iddings, E.J. Iddings, Mervyn Clements, Mr. McDonald, Mr. Wendell, Pete Lambert, Sid Cackett, Don KirVan.

CONSENT ITEMS:
    1. Motion was made to accept minutes of August 5, 2003. The motion carried
    2. Motion was made to accept the vouchers as prepared. The motion carried.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Campground: Port Manager Christine Phalen reported the deposit of $2800.00 from Campground fees and collected $1227.00 over the Labor Day weekend.

Campground Information Boards: The Commission requested that the Port Manager order the materials for the information board that is to be constructed for the campground.

Port Manager Phalen reported on a large campfire burning on Manke property. She reported the fire to the Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriffs dept contacted fire district 2 who contacted the Port Manager. They informed Mrs. Phalen that campfires were allowed. The Port had been informed by DNR that there was no fires allowed at all. This issue should be resolved so that the Port can enforce the rules.

The Port Manager was instructed by the Commission to continue to report all fires while the burn ban is on.

LANDSCAPING: There was a discussion concerning the work done by Mr. Don KirVan on the landscaping at the Port building. A discussion between Commissioner Stevens and Mr. KirVan about the additional work that was done and the cost. This item will be further study and reported on at the next meeting.

LOGO: Mr. Ken Jarstad has been working on logos to present to the Commission. Mr. Jarstad was on vacation but should present the material at the next regular Port meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: No new business was discussed at this meeting.

OPEN DISCUSSION: Several members of the community were in attendance to discuss what they thought was an agreement between the Port of Dewatto with the Port of Tahuya on their Comprehensive Plan.

It was explained to the audience that the Port of Dewatto has not joined with any Port on any projects. The Port of Dewatto is preparing a revised Comprehensive Plan for the Port of Dewatto. There has been special meetings conducted to explore ideas for the Port of Dewatto. When the Comprehensive Plan is revised it will be presented to the public in an Open meeting.

Copies of the work session are available and Commissioner Kelly has agreed to copy them and mail to interested parties.

Pete Lambert requested the Commission to install more water facets to facilitate watering. This item will be discussed at the next regular meeting

The next Regular Port of Dewatto Meeting will be held October 7, 2003 at 7:00PM at the Port of Dewatto building.
